If you are trying to run ProStockMaster on a Vista machine and it fails to start it might be a simple Vista security-related issue, which can be fixed in seconds
Dumping all JPG IPTC metadata to a CSV - free utility
We just have released a small and nice command line Java-based utility that can dump all your JPG IPTC metadata to a CSV file. It runs recursively for all the subfolders, collecting all JPGs there and writing their metadata in a CSV file.
This JPG IPTC metadata to CSV utility is free to download and is free to use with no limitations. It is delivered to you as a part of ProStockMaster software according to PSM EULA. This utility requires an installed PSM v1.6.2 or later, with either free or commercial license. Free PSM installation is available here. The utility also requires pre-installed Java 5 or later. (Get latest Java here)
You can download the utility JAR file here
Windows Installation & Run
Installation
Put psm_metadump.jar file in the lib folder in ProStockMaster installation directory (Typically, "C:\Program Files\ProStockMaster")
The full path to JAR should be like "C:\Program Files\ProStockMaster\lib\psm_metadump.jar"
Running
It's a command line tool, so you open a cmd window, then type in:
cd prostockmaster-installation-directory
(i.e. typically you type: cd "C:\Program Files\ProStockMaster")
Next, run:
java -jar lib/psm_metadump.jar root-folder-for-your-JPGs
Example:
java -jar lib/psm_metadump.jar D:\\usr\\david\\img\\20D\\edited_full_size_jpg\\stock
Note that you have either to duplicate back slashes in the folder path, making \\ instead of \
or replace each \ by / (replace the backslash by the slash)
The utility produces a CSV file "psm_metadump.csv" in the current directory, i.e. in that "C:\Program Files\ProStockMaster" where you run it in the cmd window.
NOTE: the output file is overwritten each time!
Mac Installation & Run
Installation
CTRL+click on PSM 'java-cup' icon, whenever you have it installed, select Open Folder and put the downloaded psm_metadump.jar file in "Contents/Resources/Java/lib" folder. You should see all the rest of .jar files there, if they are not there you went to the wrong place.
Run
Open Terminal window and type in
cd psm-installation--folder/ProStockMaster.app/Contents/Resources/Java
where psm-installation--folder is where you put PSM (e.g. your Desktop folder path)
Next, run:
java -jar lib/psm_metadump.jar root-folder-for-your-JPGs
Example:
java -jar lib/psm_metadump.jar /usr/david/Desktop/images/stock
The utility produces a CSV file "psm_metadump.csv" in the current directory, i.e. in that "psm-installation--folder/ProStockMaster.app/Contents/Resources/Java where you run it in the Terminal window.
NOTE: the output file is overwritten each time!
More configurable params (all platforms)
1. You can specify different output file path by providing the second argument in the command line:
Example:
java -jar lib/psm_metadump.jar /usr/david/img/stock /temp/metadata.csv
in this case the output file will be "/temp/metadata.csv" (note again the double-backslashes)
2. You can replace the default columns delimiter ";" (semicolon) by any char you want, providing the third argument to the command line:
Example:
java -jar lib/psm_metadump.jar /usr/david/img/20D/edited_full_size_jpg/stock /temp/metadata.csv #
- here symbol "#" will be inserted as the columns delimiter in the output file. Make sure that your reading software can understand such CSV though.
Using "," (comma) as a columns delimiter is NOT recommended since this is the default keywords delimiter. Do not use comma until you want each keyword to be inserted in its own column (and I have no idea why you might want that)
3. When openning the CSV file make sure you have checked 'semicolon' and unchecked 'comma' check buttons in the export wizard:

Where Are My PantherMedia Uploads?
Some customers asked me where to find their files once they are uploaded to PantherMedia web site.
You have to go to "My Panther->My Images->Images (FTP/PSM)" menu located on top of your home page when logged in to PantherMedia web site.

Note that you will see there just one file out of all the files you have uploaded to PantherMedia site with ProStockMaster. Once you submit this file, the web site will show you the next file from your PSM-PantherMedia upload folder.
Also note that PantherMedia submission process suggests you to insert up to 8 "Main keywords" into your image. First, I suggest you use at its most, i.e. insert exactly 8 keywords if you can. Of course, keep them relevant and descriptive :-)
Obviously, doing that increases the chances for your images to be found by customers searches and thus the chances to sell your work go up.
Next, make your work easier and get better sales by the proper use of ProStockMaster functionality. PSM "Manage Metadata" window allows you to put the keywords in the order of their importance / relevancy for your image. Use up and down arrows buttons to re-order your keywords in the order of relevance, putting the most important keywords at the top of the list.
Thus, when you will have to put "Main keywords" in the PantherMedia submission form you can just copy and paste 8 first keywords from the list of IPTC keywords you added to your image with ProStockMaster. And once you put your keywords in the order of their importance with PSM some other agencies will be able to use this information too, thus giving even more exposure to your pictures.
Re-creating the blog posts
We have moved to another hosting provider and we have changed the blogging platform to a more powerful engine. Unfortunately, the old and the new blogging platforms are incompatible, so we can not just Export posts from the old system and Import them into the new one.
Instead, we go post by post and re-create them in the new system. We'll not take the comments since it is a huge additional work, just the posts.
This work is in progress now, so visiting our blog you might see the most fresh post from e.g. Sep 2006.
It does not mean that it is the latest post indeed, it just means that this is the latest post till now that we have manually imported from the old blog.
Today: moving the web site to a different hosting provider
Today we are moving the web to a different hosting provider. During the next 24 hours some of PSM service can work sporadically or do not work at all. Hopefully, all the transfer will go smooth and we will be up and running again very soon. The DNS change propagation takes 24-48 hours (less in North America, more for the rest of the word), so maximum in 48 hours all the changes will be adopted by DNS servers worldwide and you will be able to work with the site and with ProStockMaster as usual.
We do this change because we are continously looking to improve our services and add more web and application features and we need an infrustructure which can support them all.
Sorry for the incovinience
Checking out another hosting provider
As a part of our continuous improvement program, we plan to transfer prostockmaster.com to another hosting provider which should allow us to provide the site visitors with the better service and with the new attractive site features. At the moment we are testing the new hosting, checking out its capabilities and features.
While we will try to transfer the web site as smooth as we can, we still should expect a short down time during the transfer.
My guess is that it will last somewhere between a few hours and 1 day.
At that time the web services which ProStockMaster application uses will become unavailable, and first of all it affects the keywords suggestion service.
We are sorry in advance for any possible service interrupt and we look forward to deliver you even better web with more attractive services and interesting options. When we'll figure out the exact transfer date, we'll publish an additional announcement.
Extending Fotolia statistics in v1.5.1
We extend Fotolia statistics support in v1.5.1, including now the statistics for all international customers that use local Fotolia sites in their languages, like es.fotolia.com, de.fotolia.com or fr.fotolia.com.
Additionally, Fotolia statistics in ProStockMaster will show now the number of the current month downloads and the monthly earnings.
v1.5 auto-update - if you experience any issue
Just in case if you experience any issue with ProStockMaster after you run auto-upgrade procedure - go to our download page and get the full set of binaries.
Windows: install it in the same directory where the previous installation was located.
Mac: install it whenever you want, then select "Connect" when you run PSM at the first time and point to the previous DB location.
Latest v1.3.2 for Mac requires Java 5, otherwise ProStockMaster won't run
Here is how to install Java 5 on your computer if for some reason your Mac is not updated automatically with the latest Java releases:

Multiple instances of ProStockMaster
You can not run multiple instances of ProStockMaster on the same computer if they work with the same DB since each one will try to lock the DB. Second instance will not run showing "Fatal Error" message since it can not access the database, which is already locked by the first instance.
This behavior is by design (no one wants a mess in his data accessing the DB from 2 or more applications, I guess), however I have to change the text in the error message.
